An eternal film festival in Harlem

Maysles_institute For anybody who knows something about documentary films they know the name Maysles.  The Maysles brothers greatly advanced the art of documentary film making.  Almost any documentary film you've ever seen has been directly influenced by the style and numerous films of the Maysles brothers.  The collection of films that the Maysles brothers either made or had a hand in is enough to make a pretty sizable library of films and that's exactly what the Maysles Institute does.  The Maysles Institute maintains the Maysles film library, continues to present it to the public, and runs training programs in ... and where do you think this amazing resource is housed?  In some artsy building in the LES?  Um, no.  This collection and institute is at 127th and Lenox.  Not only is the Maysles Institute housed in Harlem for going on 3 years, but the curators and staff there are working with local organizations to present films that are significant and relevant to the local community.  For the month of September the Maysles Institute, in association with the National Black Program Consortium and Independent Television Service, is presenting a program of six films called Black Masculinity.
